Indoor Air Health and Asthma
Air health is a continuous concern for parents of children with asthma. There are countless asthma triggers, and mold is high on the list. In fact, a 2005 study conducted at the Institute for Occupational and Environmental Medicine at England's University of Birmingham deduced that a child's risk of asthma doubles if exposed to mold in the home.
Mold health effects are very serious for children with asthma, and parents should be aware of the potentially harmful effects of long-term exposure to mold, such as infection, cough, irritated eyes, and other chronic respiratory diseases.
The musty odor of mold in the home raised the risk of asthma even when there was no visible mold or signs of water damage. It's also important to note that when mold is present, it is likely other irritants and allergens, such as dust mites, are also likely present.
